Ben Ashley

Director of Architectural Services

BenAshley.JPGBen Ashley serves as the Director of Architectural Services for the School Building Authority. Since joining the SBA in 2010, Ben has overseen the design and construction of many new PreK-12 schools all across the state. As the liaison between the SBA and the design and construction industries, Ben works with leading Architects and Contractors to develop design and construction standards that are vital to the success of the West Virginia capital school improvement program. As the Director of Architectural Services, Ben oversees the Architectural Services Staff and all phases of project development and construction.

Ben is a native of Spencer and a graduate of Roane County High School. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture from The University of Tennessee and a Master of Business Administration from West Virginia University. Prior to his service at the SBA, Ben worked as an associate architect in the private sector. Ben also twice served as a summer intern at the SBA while in college.

Ben was recognized by the State Journal as a Generation Next: 40 under 40 award winner in 2020. In 2012, he participated in the Leadership West Virginia program through the Chamber of Commerce. Ben is an Associate member of the West Virginia chapter of the AIA and holds a Construction Documents Technologist certification from the Construction Specifications Institute.  While in high school, Ben earned the rank of Eagle Scout in his local Boy Scouts of America troop. Ben lives in Charleston with his wife, Suzette, his daughter, Alaina, and his three dogs.
