Michele Blatt

​​State Superintendent of Schools

​Ms. Michele Blatt was appointed by the West Virginia Board of Education as the 34th State Superintendent of Schools in July 2023.​

Ms. Blatt previously served as Deputy State Superintendent of Schools in West Virginia. As a Deputy State Superintendent, Ms. Blatt provided organizational leadership to ensure the implementation of the West Virginia Department of Education’s (WVDE) strategic plan, directed daily operations for all WVDE Divisions, and facilitates coordination of support for the State’s fifty-five county school districts.

Ms. Blatt has enjoyed a distinguished career in education for over twenty-five years with experience as a teacher and principal prior to working at the WVDE. Since joining the WVDE in 2007, she has earned promotions through the roles of Executive Director of the Office of School Improvement, Chief Accountability Officer and Assistant Superintendent for the Division of Support and Accountability. Her professional focus centers on turning around low-performing schools and providing a variety of strategies, tools and resources to meet the individual needs of these schools. Michele’s personal devotion to supporting every child’s well-being serves as her moral compass and has led to her professional success.​
